This is the first song that I ever wrote. I was writing a lot of poetry and had been learning the piano in London, with a piano player that I s where I worked as a singing waitress. I put my words to the piano chords for the first time, and this began an entire journey into songwriting, traveling and finding piano's where ever I went (youth hostels, halls and hotels) all over Canada, San Francisco and London. I was also missing home (Dee Why in Sydney Australia) as I had been travelling for a year. I was sitting on a gravestone near where I lived at the time near Richmond Dear Park in SW London, 'feeling empty and far from home.' I was longing to find 'my people' and didn't really feel like I fit in anywhere (I was soon to learn that I was a Lesbian!!!!!!) ha ha but hadn't yet figured that out yet. As much as I didn't feel like I fit into 'society' I always felt very connected to the trees, earth, ocean, forests....with mother nature and the stars etc xxx I really do feel that this song 'came through me' at the time as I wrote it in an hour!
Wishing you magic xxxx

Fly Free Lyrics by Mish Songsmith
V1) Sittin’ on a grave stone, feeling empty and far from home, far from home
Talking to the earth song, wondering how, I belong in this world, in this world
PRE) Then highs come by and they lift me up, lift me up to where it feels free
And everywhere I see the day and looking up I want to, I want to fly free
V2) I’m feeling kinda’ grey skies, feeling empty, feel like I’m gonna cry, why would I wanna’ cry
I’m feeling so apart, deep, deep, deep inside my heart, heart of the universe
PRE) Then highs come by and they lift me up, lift me up to where it feels free
And everywhere I see the day and looking up I want to, I want to fly free
M8) Free as a mountain, free as a bird up in a tree
Free to sing my lonely song, free to love, free to laugh
Free to cry and free to belong
SOLO’s
PRE/OUTRO) Then highs come by and they lift me up
Lift me up to where it feels free
And everywhere I see the day and looking up I want to fly
I want to, I wanna fly, I want to, I wanna fly, I want to
Fly free eeeeee, fly freeeeeee, I wanna fly I want to fly free
