This song questions the experience of polyamorous relationships. I once had a short relationship with a woman who was toying with the idea and I wasn't sure how I felt about it, hence the question 'could we be free, could we have no boundaries'. I'd also just broken up with her and she wanted to get back together and I didn't want to, as I felt hurt and didn't want to be hurt again.
